Purpose:

Quicklime is also called hydrated lime. When quicklime is reacted with water in a specific amount required for complete hydration of calcium and magnesium oxides, a powdery product is obtained. It contains Calcium dihydroxide Ca(OH)2. Particle size: 100% below 100 microns. Due to its basic chemical nature, calcium dihydroxide is also called calcium base. In common practice it is known as slaked lime, as it is obtained by reacting calcium oxide (quicklime) with water. The process is called 'slaking'. Quicklime is used mainly in construction and agriculture. In construction to produce lime mortars for masonry and plastering. In the mining and processing industry, in flotation and wastewater treatment. In the energy industry for the softening and neutralisation of process water. In drinking water and waste water treatment plants. In the leather industry. It kills micro-organisms and is therefore used to disinfect premises (mainly farm animals), also residential buildings. It comes into use in many areas of farming- liming acid soils, for making bleaching lime, etc. Lime is also used to extract sugar in sugar production.
