Sealants are substances used to insulate joints or cavities in construction or other structures. They protect the surface from moisture, steam, gas, pollution. Sealants are used for construction and repair as well as everyday use for various purposes. Most often, holes and cracks are closed with them.
Construction sealants are divided into classes according to the chemical component, purpose and degree of elasticity. They make it possible to determine the need to use one or another type of sealant in different situations.
Thiocarbonyl: Sealants containing Thiocol. This type is considered the most durable and resilient with a resistance of approximately 30 years. Sealants of this type are excellent for sealing various shapes, almost do not shrink and do not release solvent. Building sealants containing thiocol can be used freely in all weather conditions. They have an increased level of elasticity, are resistant to grease, are resistant to aggressive chemical substances and ultraviolet radiation. Mainly black and gray color is produced.
Polyurethane: Polyurethane sealants are commonly used to seal interpanel seams, joints of prefabricated structures, roof joints, joints of building structures with concrete, metal, wood or PVC surfaces. It can serve as an "ambulance" when repairing seams from silicone sealants. For gluing and sealing various surfaces of metal, stone, lacquered tin, ceramics, concrete, wood, PVC. They have good adhesion and provide durable bonding surfaces. Resistant to the action of corrosive agents. They have high impact resistance, moisture resistance, frost resistance, acids, corrosion, ultraviolet light, weak alkaline and salt solutions, elasticity. They can be applied to a wet surface and colored.
Acrylic: Acrylic - a polymer based on acrylic acid derivatives. It has good adhesion to concrete, brick, plaster, wood. It is elastic. Resistant to UV rays. Maintains its properties in a wide range of temperatures. Acrylic sealants are for sealing holes and openings that are not subject to vibration - a small space between a window and a wall, floorboards, a door sill and part of a wall. Unlike other construction sealants, acrylic is easy to wash off while curing within 24 hours.
Silicone: Silicone polymer - silicone rubber (45% composition). They are divided into two types: acid hardening and neutral. The first has good adhesion to smooth surfaces, is resistant to moisture and high temperatures. The second more expensive, but has a wider range of use, in particular for sealing plastic surfaces, they do not have a pungent smell. Long-lasting (serve more than 15 years). Resistant to UV radiation and almost any aggressive materials. Excellent adhesion to most types of building materials, glass, metal, ceramics and do not require the use of a primer.
Bitumen (rubber): These sealants are a thermoplastic mass based on synthetic rubber (polyisobutylene). Extremely resistant to aggressive chemicals chemicals. Its structure is similar to rubber. They are used to repair roofs, rubber products, bituminous coatings and insulating materials. You can only work at plus temperatures. With good adhesion and elasticity, anti-corrosion properties, possibility of further surface treatment, long service life. Incompatible with some plastics, mineral oils.
Butyl: Its main components are isoprene and isobutylene. A sealant that is often used in the installation and repair of roofing materials and connections. Applying the sealant is similar to the effect of double-sided tape. After removing the protective film, one side is fixed to the product being repaired, the other to the base.
